Landscape Plants for North Carolina Gardens

with Mary Musson, MLA and landscape designer

Expand your palette of ornamental plants. Each season this class will cover another group of approximately 40 plants suitable for North Carolina gardens. You will learn identification skills, design use, and plant culture. Each student will receive a portfolio of photos showing the plants studied that season.

4 Saturdays, June 1-29 (no class June 22), 10 am-noon

Photographing Plants

Plants are complex objects. They are solid and transparent, both a single object and many very different parts. All interacting with the sun and wind. Learn to capture the beauty of plants in this class that will focus on composition and technique, including some unusual strategies.

2 Saturdays, June 8 & 15, 8 am-1 pm

Location: meet at the Doris Duke Center prepared to spend time both indoors and out in the Gardens

Participant limit: 15

Fee: $90; Gardens members $70.

Touring the Gardens:

In every season there is an opportunity to experience the beauty of Sarah P. Duke Gardens.

Trained guides lead the way on tours of breathtaking garden displays, garden architecture, native plant gardens, vegetable gardens, special collections, and Duke Gardens’ history. Specific tour topics are available, please ask about theme tours when you make your reservation

Tours can be scheduled for groups by contacting the education program registrar at 919-668-1707 two or more weeks prior to your preferred tour date. Cancellations must be made by 1 pm the day before the scheduled tour.

Afternoon walking tours are available Sunday-Friday.

Trolley tours are available Monday morning – Friday afternoon

Fees:payable upon confirming reservation via cash, check, MasterCard or Visa                                                                           

Walking tours for 15 or fewer people - $50 for the group

For 16 or more people a fee of $7.00 per person is added to the base rate of $50.

Trolley tour for up to 3 passengers - $25.00.

Trolley tour for up to 5 passengers - $35.00.
