Years had past, events had happened, my beautiful life had progressed and yet something was still missing.  I had what felt like a pilot light with no off switch burning inside me, ready to ignite at the mere sight of a flame. Little did I know, that burning inside was the desire for deeper self reflection. After much pondering the only conclusion I could come up with was that I had to dig beyond the layers. Dig beyond the layers to find my clarity, my calm, the peace within and my self acceptance. Great optimism slowly lead to discouragement as I desperately searched my soul exploring new avenues.

I had hit a point and was about to say screw it, then I found meditation. I attended group meditations, participated in a self practice with audio books, practiced during long workouts and anytime that I had a free moment to clear my mind. I had found something! With big eyes, an open mind and strong spirit I started exploring. Like how a kid desperately scans the sandy beach for the perfect sea shell, all the while everyone around him keeps telling him there’s no perfect sea shell; he believes there is, so he keeps searching until he finally finds one. One that greets him with spark. He slowly bends over to pick it up, smiles and says, “I got one, we can go home now.” Even though it’s not the perfect shell, there’s something about it that struck him and gave him the ability to find contentment. Meditation is my sea shell.

Yoga had always been an activity that I saw as a way of exercising and not much more. It wasn’t until I reached a point of frustration in my meditation practice that I saw how well yoga, meditation, and mindfulness played hand in hand. This time, I had a new approach. The new goal of my yoga practice was to distinguish between my mind and my true self. To connect within and act from the place of true self and to suffer less.
