For Take a Child Outside Week, an initiative of the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences, the arboretum has lined up the following activities : 
Garden Buds, Friday, Sept. 14, 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., hands-on garden-themed activities, creative art projects, stories and a snack. It's $12 per child. The focus is on apple trees. 
Leaf Rubbings, Tuesday, September 24, 10:30-11:30 am ($3 for Friends of the Arboretum, $5 all others)

Seed Balls, Monday, September 30, 10:30-11:30 AM ($5 per child)
Sept. 27, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., a garden storytime will feature guest reader Miss North Carolina Johna Edmonds. Meet at the arboretum's visitor center and head out to the garden
for stories, songs and movement, plus a craft to take home. Bring a picnic blanket. It's for preschoolers and their adults.
