Glass artisan Lisa Daly presented a demonstration entitled “Stained Glass: Sixties Art for the 21st Century” at the North Regional Library in Raleigh on June 26. Ms. Daly brought a selection of tools and glass materials that she uses in the studio. Her stained glass windows and doors adorn chapels, commercial spaces, and private residences. She begins a stain glass design by drawing patterns on the computer and using a large scale printer to produce a stencil. She cuts glass in individual pieces to match the stencil, and solders the pieces together using either copper foil or lead came.. Questions from the audience ranged from how long can glass last, with Ms. Daly responding “longer than you, since Roman times,” and how to salvage the broken glass heirlooms from Grandma, “create a glass mandala.” Visit her website at http:/16thstreet.net/designs.
